Steinberger Construction Receives Award For Public Works Project

11/1/10 - Steinberger Construction Inc., 400 Water Street, Logansport was recently honored by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Indiana (ABC) at their annual awards banquet.  The company received the Award of Excellence in the Public Works / Environmental category for the Grissom ARB Power Check Pad project.

The Steinberger team, led by Project Manager Barri Cranfill and Superintendent Scott Briner, constructed the 200’ by 200’ power check pad, an isolated area to perform maintenance on the KC-135 Stratotanker refueling jets. The sheer weight of the jets means that the pad had to be very heavy duty, with very precise tolerances. The team ensured immaculate jobsite housekeeping, because any debris that got into a jet engine could cause millions of dollars of damage.

Steinberger Construction / LMU Conduct Energy Audit

3/5/10 - High energy costs don’t just affect residences; they hit local businesses, too. Steinberger Construction was looking for a way to conserve energy and lower costs, so they turned to Logansport Municipal Utilities for advice.

LMU enrolled Steinberger in their Energy Audit Program to audit the company’s usage and to recommend energy-saving procedures. LMU’s Bob Dunderman managed the auditing process. “This program is a great tool for companies to see where their energy is being consumed and how to reduce that consumption”, says Bob Dunderman, LMU Electric Distribution Manager.

The audit begins by measuring the company’s actual current usage with a meter installed by LMU to establish baseline energy usage. Then, energy usage experts at Balance Engineering, a Carmel, Indiana engineering firm, create a computerized model to show total energy use. The HVAC system size and type, amount of insulation, amount of space, number of windows, and lighting type are all part of the modeling process.

Balance then uses that model to demonstrate the energy savings created by different changes. “Steinberger Construction has done an excellent job of planning and operating their facility for minimum energy usage,” reported Jack Staley of Balance Engineering. The audit pointed out ways the company could improve even further. Each suggestion included the total cost as well as the payback period so the company could evaluate the most effective changes.

Steinberger Construction has already begun implementing the changes suggested and expects to save thousands of dollars in utility bills because of the audit. Steinberger would like to thank LMU for providing such a great service. LMU has implemented this program to be proactive in saving energy for our customers and being environmentally responsible. As resources become available LMU will be conducting more energy audits throughout the year.
